One of the biggest buzz words as a student near's their junior and senior year is SCHOLARSHIPS. No matter what finances may be available, scholarships are a necessary step in everybody's transition to college. It is free money that one can use to finance their college education. To find and apply for them may take a little time and effort, but it's well worth the time investment.

Available Scholarships to consider. Note the deadlines.

BGSU Science and Math Education in ACTION:  available for incoming BGSU freshmen interested in teaching High School or Middle Childhood Science or Math. Worth approximately $20,000 over four years; 3.0 min. HS GPA, 23 ACT; deadline to apply January 15, 2019. Visit www.bgsu.edu/action for more info and to apply online.

ELKS EMERGENCY EDUCATIONAL GRANT - available to siblings of deceased or totally disabled ELKS members.  The application deadline is October 31, 2018.  Make request for an Application by calling 773-755-4732 or by emailing request to: scholarship@elks.org Applications are submitted to the National Elks National Foundation. 

ELKS EXALTED RULER AWARD - Any prospective student (male or female) residing within the jurisdiction of the B.P.O. Elks - Lima Lodge No. 54 who plans to pursue an eligible educational program at a career or technical institution or a college or university may apply.  APPLICANTS MUST BE EITHER A CHILD OR GRANDCHILD OF A MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING OF THE B.P.O. ELKS LODGE NO. 54 OF LIMA OHIO.  Applications will be available at the Lima Lodge office September 15th and must be submitted by April 1st 

Rhodes College Credit Plus Scholarship:  Available to seniors who have successfully completed at least one CC+ course through Rhodes in high school and continue on full-time for college at Rhodes, $1,000 renewable for second year at Rhodes, go to http:www.rhodesstate.edu/scholarships to apply or contact morman.d@rhodesstate.edu for more information

Prudential Spirit of Community Award:  graduating seniors who are deep-rooted in volunteerism; up to $1,000 and travel opportunity; deadline November 6, 2018; spirit.prudential.com

Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship Contest:  Based on scholarship, leadership, need; various amounts available; deadline is November 15, 2018; www.elks.org/scholars/scholarships/mvs.cfm

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation:  3.5 GPA or higher, 26 or higher ACT, financial need; deadline is November 20, 2018; www.jkcf.org

Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarship:  A scholarship opportunity for high school seniors who have an identified learning disability and/or ADHD are encouraged to apply. Deadline is November 12, 2018. Further information and how to apply can be found at www.ncld.org/scholarships

Elks Legacy Award  $4,000, open to children and/or grandchildren of a current Elk's member, apply at www.elks.org/scholars/scholarships/legacy.cfm Deadline 2/1/19. 

Hauss-Helms Foundation:  $1,000-$7,500, based on need, 2.0 GPA, top 50% of class, scores, apply at www.hauss-helmsfoundation.org   Deadline: 3/15/19

UNOH Scholarship:   Twenty-five scholarships worth a total of over $250,000 will be awarded as a result of scholarship testing at the UNOH Open House on Nov. 2, 2018 for students interested in attending UNOH after graduation.  Scholarships available for the areas of Accounting, Business Management, Information Technology, Medical Technology, and Marketing.  Please see Mr. Smith for more info and a UNOH contact.

OSU-Lima "D.R.E.A.M." Program 2019: opportunity for seniors in the class of 2019 who plan to attend OSU-Lima in the fall of 2019; program designed to assist capable, first-generation students (neither parent has 4 yr. degree), and having financial need through the entire college admissions process; renewable for four years at OSU-Lima; other OSU scholarships available to students in the DREAM Program.  See Mr. Smith by October 15th for further information.

Quest Bridge National College Match:  targets low-income, high-achieving seniors (under $65,000/yr household income and top 5-10% of class), offers opportunities for full four-year scholarships; look at academic achievement, character, financial need; deadline to apply is September 27, 2019; apply at www.questbridge.org

Horatio Alger Scholarship: $6,000-$25,000; for students interested in enrolling to pursue bachelor's degree in Fall 2019 that lead to employment; critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income); U.S. citizen, activities, community service, integrity, perseverance in  overcoming adversity, 2.0 minimum GPA; go to scholars.horatioalger.com for more information and to apply; application deadline October 25th.

AES Engineering Scholarship: $500; based on character, available to any senior attending post-secondary education, not required to be an engineering major; further information available at http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships; deadline October 6, 2018.

Merit Scholarships:  Once students are accepted to a college, many colleges have scholarships available based on GPA and ACT scores.  Ask your college for more information.  Various deadlines per the college/university
