One of the biggest buzz words as a student near's their junior and senior year is SCHOLARSHIPS. No matter what finances may be available, scholarships are a necessary step in everybody's transition to college. It is free money that one can use to finance their college education. To find and apply for them may take a little time and effort, but it's well worth the time investment.

C.R. Meyers Scholarship: sponsored by the Ohio Association of Litter Prevention and Recycling Professionals, a statewide organization which promotes recycling and litter prevention. Must be enrolled or plan to enroll in and accredited Ohio college university, or technical school with a major related to the Environmental Sciences or Environmental Education and must reside in Ohio; $1,000; application available at www.oalprp.org on the "Scholarships" link. Deadline is April 15th.
Elida Athletic Boosters Scholarship: $1,000 each to one male and one female; have to letter in at least two different varsity sports at Elida; activities; honors; accomplishments; community service; applications available in the academic office with a deadline of April 15th.
Travis R. Miller Scholarship: $1,000; for vocational study such as Machinist Journeyman, Tool & Die, High Performance Engine, or Agricultural-related field; student can choose to use the scholarship at a 2 or 4 yr institution; 2.5-3.75 GPA; strong work ethic with a history of employment and interest in their course of study; activities, service; application available in academic office; deadline of April 15th.
Elida Education Association Scholarship: $1,000; graduating senior entering the field of education with plans to become a teacher; activities; service; application available in the academic office; deadline April 15th.
Elida Education Association Legacy Scholarship: $1,000; graduating senior child of an active Elida Education Association member; activities; service; application available in the academic office; due date of April 15th.
Hy-Ho Scholarship: leadership in school, civic, curricular, and extra-curricular activities; academic achievement; motivation to serve and succeed in all endeavors; African-American senior students of Allen County; plan to attend 2 or 4 year institution; 2,5 GPA; application available in academic office; deadline April 1, 2018
Alvie & Shirley Cockerell Memorial Scholarship: $500; 2.0 GPA or higher; self-motivated, honest, hard-working, responsible, community-minded, work-oriented; application available in academic office with a deadline of May 1st.
Allen County Bar Association Scholarship: Two $2,500 available; must be a senior planning to attend an institution of higher education in the fall of 2018; scholarship awarded to the authors of the best two essays submitted; information available in the academic office; deadline is April 24, 2018.
2018 Ohio School Boards Association Black Caucus Leo Lucas Scholarship: Deadline March 14, 2018; must be ethically diverse, must provide proof of acceptance to an accredited 2 or 4 year college, 2.5 GPA
Class of 1963 Scholarship: two $500 scholarships available; merit, need, activities, service; application available in the academic office; deadline April 15th
Paul Sluss Scholarship: (former Elida HS Yearbook advisor/History teacher); $1,000; GPA that ensures success in college; need; interest in English and/or History will be given preference; application available in academic office with deadline of April 15th
Elida Education Foundation: $500-700; typically 10 scholarships are available each year; based on academic achievement (awards, honors, leadership, sports/activities), educational attitude, career goals, volunteerism, top 25% of class, 2 letters of recommendation); applications available in academic office with an April 15th deadline
Elida Breakfast Club: $500; typically two scholarships available; health-related career field preferred; applications available in academic office with an April 15th deadline
CIAO Scholarship: $1,000; 3.0 GPA; academic achievement, activities, civic/community/religious service, need; Italian ancestry NOT required; application available in academic office or at www.ciaolima.org Postmarked deadline of April 2nd
The Shinn Family Memorial Scholarship: Four separate $250 scholarships available; merit, activities, need; application available in the academic office; deadline April 30th
Scott Graham Harmon Scholarship: $500 scholarship for a senior athlete who has earned a varsity letter in a minimum of two different sports, must have participated in sports as a senior, must have a 3.0 cum GPA, and must plan to attend a 4-year college/university. Two scholarships available (one male, one female). Application available in the academic office with a due date of April 15th.
Allen County Farm Bureau Scholarship: $500, must have a current paid Allen County Farm Bureau member, applicant must be going into an agriculture-related program, come from an agricultural background, or been involved in an ag-related service for one year. 2.5 GPA minimum. Application available in academic office, deadline April 6, 2018
Ohio Oil & Gas Energy Education Program/Foundation Scholarship: $1,000 renewable, career goal in the crude oil or natural gas industry to attend college, technical, or trade school in Ohio, 2.5 GPA; application available at www.oogeep.org and due March 1, 2018.
Nancy Steiner Scholarship: $1,000 for students graduating from an Allen County high school planning to continue their education in the fields of study related to Park Management (Biology, Dendrology, Agronomy, Environmental Law, Wildlife Management, Forestry, etc.), 3.2 GPA, need, leadership. Applications available in academic office. Deadline for submission is April 15th.
Rhodes College Credit Plus Scholarship: Available to seniors who have successfully completed at least one CC+ course through Rhodes in high school and continue on full-time for college at Rhodes, $1,000 renewable for second year at Rhodes, go to http:www.rhodesstate.edu/scholarships to apply or contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Durrell Blank Scholarship: Available to graduating seniors of EHS, $1,000, established in memory of Elida Alum Durrell Blank who had Cystic Fibrosis, winner will be a student who has faced a unique challenge and handling life through that challenge, need, merit (in that order). American Association of University Women (AAUW) Scholarship: Ten $1,000 scholarships available; female, plan to enroll or be enrolled in an accredited college or university for Fall 2018, graduate of an Allen County high school; merit, service, activities, goals; applications available in academic office; deadline March 16, 2018
William D. Squires Scholarship: $4,000 renewable (15 available in Ohio); applications accepted from February 15 through April 5th; based on financial need (EFC on FAFSA must be less than $7,000), career goal-oriented, motivation, character, 3.2 GPA; application available at www.wmdsquiresfoundation.org under the SENIORS tab.
The Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons: academics, community service, volunteering, involvement; $1200; applications available in academic office; deadline March 1, 2018
Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE): for a student who has a parent who is an OAPSE union member who is enrolling at accredited 2 or 4 year accredited university, college, technical, or business school for any field of study, $2,500, activities/employment, leadership, academics, applications available in academic office or at www.oapse.org; application postmark or email due date of March 1, 2018.
Three Fraternal Order of Eagles Scholarships:
1. George Wilson Memorial Scholarship: Parent need not be a member of Eagles, 1 male and 1 female winner, $1,000, must pursue a bachelor's or associate's degree at an accredited college, university, or technical school, 3.00 GPA in HS required for consideration, must complete first semester of college with minimum 2.5 GPA to receive money; based on academics, activities, leadership, service; application available in academic office; deadline to March 31, 2018.
2. Ohio State Aerie Scholarship (Eagles): Parent or grandparent MUST be member of Lima Eagles #370, $2,500, can be used at college of your choice, merit and need based, must pursue a bachelor's or associate's degree at an accredited college, university, or technical school, applications available in academic office, you MUST return application and necessary materials to the address listed on application by March 31, 2018.
3. Lima #370 Auxiliary Scholarship: Parent or grandparent MUST be member of Lima Eagles #370 Ladies Auxiliary, must be female; merit, activities, service. Application in the academic office.
Ohio and Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools: Over 100 different scholarships available; C average or better in HS, must be nominated by a local community leader or current state legislator. Goal is to provide students with training and education necessary to obtain a job in Ohio or Michigan. Application deadline for ALL materials is April 6, 2018 to the OMACCS address. Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center Scholarship: Ten $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to seniors 2018 who plan to become a medical providers; test scores and merit; deadline is February 23, 2018; applications available in the academic office.
Ohio State Aerie Scholarship: $2,500 scholarship available to a child of a current Eagles member; grades, test scores; deadline March 31, 2018; applications available in the academic office.
Robert Kumpe Memorial Scholarship: 5 scholarship available; must have played soccer in high school; grades, test scores, class rank; deadline Feb. 18, 2018; applications available in the academic office
Howard "Butch" Pangle Memorial Scholarship: a fund has recently been established for residents of Allen County interested in pursuing post-secondary education in the field of law enforcement; character, grades, need; applications available in the academic office
The Bonnie Eddy Educational Supply and Book Grant (for Education Majors): The NW Ohio region of Ohio school boards has several $500 scholarships available to help pay for college books for students majoring in teaching; top 50% of graduating class, leadership, professional competence, involvement, character. Scholarship applications available in the academic office or online at www.ohioschoolboards.org/northwest-region along right side under "Resources". Completed applications and all required materials to be emailed by you to the email address listed on the application by January 31, 2018.
2018 ACME Baseball Scholarship: student must have played at least one year ACME baseball, 2.5 or higher cum GPA, activities, academic honors; five $500 scholarships available; applications available in academic office.
Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award: one senior student from each county will be presented this prestigious, statewide honor; outstanding achievement, grades, test scores, activities, awards. Applications available in the academic office; completed applications due to Elida counselor by January 26, 2018.
William P. and Pauline J. Deisel Scholarship: $4,000 available to students in Allen County; application available at http://www.community-foundation.com/scholarships/william-p-and-pauline-j-deisel-scholarship?q=deisel; deadline is noon on Feb. 7, 2018. Applicant must plan to be a full-time student at an accredited college, university, technical, or community college, be a U.S. citizen, 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA, applicants who participate in faith-based community service given priority, financial need is not a requirement.
Midwest Electric Scholarships:
1) General Scholarship: parents must be Midwest Electric customers; six scholarships available ranging from $1,000-2,000; 3.5 GPA
2) Touchstone Energy Achievement Scholarship: parents must be Midwest Electric customers; one $2,000 scholarship available; 2.75 GPA; students judged on how well their activities reflect the following core values: accountability, integrity, innovation, commitment to community and their drive and dedication to achieving a college education despite personal obstacles/challenges they've faced. "Go Bucks" Scholarship: A scholarship available to an Allen County senior who will be attending Ohio State University (Columbus or Lima), recipient must be admitted to OSU, class rank top 10% preferably, recommendation required, school/community involvement; deadline January 19, 2018; application available in academic office
Vicki Mauk Memorial Scholarship: a $1,500 non-renewable scholarship to one senior female athlete; must have earned a varsity letter in at least two different sports during high school, must have participated in sports her senior year, minimum 2.5 GPA, and plan to attend a 4-year college/university; deadline is April 6, 2018; applications available in the academic office.
FFA Scholarship: $1,500 scholarship available from Monsanto; students need not be an FFA member to apply but have an interest in science, technology, business, communication, engineering, etc. Deadline to apply is February 1, 2018. Charles River (Spencerville) Biomedical Research College Scholarship: $1,000 non-renewable; student must have an interest in research and pursue a degree in biological or chemical sciences; deadline March 1, 2018; applications available in the academic office.
