37 schools in Ohio were recognized with the Purple Star Award and the designation lasts for three years. Elida Elementary, Middle & High School were each awarded individually for their commitment to serving military-connected students and families.
To meet the requirements for the Purple Star Award, schools must designate a liaison between military-connected students and their families and the school. The liaison works with teachers to support the military-connected students in their classrooms and helps to ensure military families and students have access to necessary considerations and resources. Elida has liaisons in each school building including social workers and teachers.
The Elida School website contains helpful resources for military families. Elida Superintendent Joel Mengerink remarks “We are honored that each of our buildings received this recognition today. It takes a team of people working together that demonstrate a commitment such as this to serve our students and families that are associated with the different branches of the military.”
