This hands-on course is open to 11th and 12th grade students. In this class the goal is to show the students the industrial process in designing, drafting, and building a product to market. We first go to the computer lab and learn how to use the AutoCAD (Computer Assisted Drafting) software in the design phase. We then apply the knowledge to move into the drafting phase as we draw our 1st and 2nd semster project plans. Then finish with the building phase as we construct the project for personal use in the shop.
Before constructing we talk extensively about machine safety and general shop procedures. Then while building the project we talking about the finer details of cabinet making, wood joints, fastners, sanding, and types of finishing. Students will use the equipment to build their own furniture projects to keep.
