Bus Drivers Needed to Maintain Routes
School bus driver shortages is an issue affecting many school districts. Elida is no different and is facing some possible drastic changes to transportation this coming school year if the staffing needs aren't met within the next couple of weeks.
Elida Transportation is currently hiring multiple full-time positions. At minimum, four (4) new drivers are needed to keep our current level of service. There is also a need for substitute drivers.
Elida Superintendent Joel Mengerink addressed the shortage at the May and June Board of Education meetings, stating that if positions aren't filled, the board will have to consider some major changes. Read more below.
These include but are not limited to no bus service for high school students, elimination of transportation for students living within a 2-mile radius of the school, moving 5th grade (and possibly 4th grade) start time to possibly match the middle & high school start times, late shuttle buses to pick up/drop off at some locations, reduction of athletic busing, and possibly more.
Bus Driver positions come with paid driving instruction, flexible schedules and routes pay a minimum of $24.07 per hour (or more for experienced drivers). Drivers also receive year-round stretch pay, and meaningful work being part of a great community enjoying fellow co-workers and building relationships with Elida students.
