Graduate Makes Another Significant Donation

Elida is humbled and grateful to have received another substantial donation from Class of 1962 graduate, Mr. Delbert P. Shinn. Mr. Shinn presented Supt. Mengerink & Treasurer Joel Parker with $20,000 on September 28, 2022, to be used toward the Dorothy Edwards Field Score Board and the Shinn Family Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Delbert is certainly one of Elida’s biggest supporters with donations totaling over $400,000-including his Shinn Family Memorial Scholarship Fund which he started 20 years ago, to provide scholarships for Elida Seniors.  He has also funded other major building projects in the district including the Del Shinn Press Box, the visitor’s press box, and co-funded the construction of the football locker room and co-ed weight room.

While a student at Elida, Delbert was a good student, on the National Honor Society, a great athlete on the football field and 2nd leading scorer on the basketball team, and a successful track athlete, as well. Mr. Shinn was inducted into the Elida Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017. He worked in the Napoleon School District for 31 years as a teacher, an assistant Principal and as Interim Principal at Patrick Henry.

Delbert also worked in the Elida Driver’s Education Department as a driving instructor for 18 years, from 2003-2021.
