Bus Drivers Needed to Maintain Routes

School bus driver shortages is an issue affecting many school districts. Elida is no different and is facing some possible drastic changes to transportation this coming school year if the staffing needs aren't met within the next couple of weeks.
Elida Transportation is currently hiring multiple full-time positions. At minimum, four (4) new drivers are needed to keep our current level of service. There is also a need for substitute drivers. 
Elida Superintendent Joel Mengerink addressed the shortage at the May and June Board of Education meetings, stating that if positions aren't filled, the board will have to consider some major changes. Read more below.

At the June 30, 2026 Board of Education meeting, Mr. Jaired Birks announced his resignation from the Board effective immediately.  We appreciate the time Mr. Birks dedicated to the Board.  As a result, the Board now has a vacancy to fill.  Anyone who is interested in filling this vacancy on the Board should submit this application to jmengerink@elida.k12.oh.us by 3 pm on July 8, 2026.Current Board members will select who the replacement person will be to fill Mr. Birks’ term.

Elida High School Assistant Principal Dan Larimore has been selected as the next Elida Athletic Director, pending Board approval, to replace Mr. Dave Evans who is retiring after this school year. Mr. Larimore has been with the District for 21 years, as both a math teacher and Assistant Principal. Press release

Mr. Aaron Cunningham, Mrs. Aundrea Fricke and Mr. Ben Troyer were sworn-in as new members of Elida School Board during the Tues., Jan. 13 Organizational Meeting.

New Board Members Elected

Elida will welcome new members to Elida School Board in January 2026.
Mrs. Aundrea Fricke, Mr. Ben Troyer and Mr. Aaron Cunningham were elected on November 4.
They'll be sworn in during the January Board meeting date when that date is chosen during the planning meeting.
