Alumni Spotlight: Class of 2018 Kate Foster

Kate Foster is a graduate of the Elida Class of 2018 and just graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a dual major in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Global Ministries. She recently spent several weeks working here in the district student teaching, finishing her TESOL Practicum, assisting students with language barriers. We have a great number of students enrolled in the district with whom English is not their primary language, students from the Philippines, Uzbekistan, China, and Central South America. She assisted students in small groups and observed in the middle and high school, as well. Now, her plans have her leaving for destinations around the globe.

Volunteers Help with District Safety Project

An important project that will enhance school safety in every school building in the district was just completed!  24 volunteers from several local churches offered their sewing skills to assist with the project to create and install over 200 custom made blinds over every classroom door window in each school building in the district.  Elida high school students also participated in the project. Students in Mrs. Jones’ & Mrs. Cressman’s Resource class helped with sewing, ironing and cutting of the materials.  During normal class time, it is recommended that doors should remain closed and locked, but windows should remain unobstructed. This allows administration the ability to see in classrooms as they walk through their building. However, in the event of an emergency situation involving an intruder in the buildings, teachers can quickly cover the windows with these custom made blinds which have quick-release straps, allowing them to easily conceal their classrooms and students from view.
